******************************************************************************* MESSAGE FROM BYRON: Reminder that 16s and 18s begin play at 8:00 sharp. COACHES MEETING AT 7:30. 12s and 14s play in the afternoon (details coming tomorrow on start times as possibly 14s will start at 2:00 pm but to be confirmed). COACHES MEETING TBA TOMORROW.
With Pomona's teams not playing, there are two 3-team pools in the 14s and one 5-team pool in the 16s (the 5-team pool will play on two courts simultaneously with non-playing team calling lines and scoring for both courts. There will be another ref to call one of the two matches---besides coach of the reffing team).
Pool play will consist of one game to 30 points, win by 2 points (no cap - this is a change from first announcement).
Each pool will break into 2 gold division teams (top 2) and 2 silver division teams (bottom 2). Single elimination will then be played. When a team loses, it is finished. The pools are seeded as best we could through past finishes. In principal, there are 2 quite strong teams paired with 2 weaker ones.
Given the many games that need to be played, the playoff format is being decided and will be announced by tomorrow night.
The single-division brackets will be 2-out-of-3 (exact scores yet to be announced). Court assignments will be posted on the announcement board.
If the tournament gets too far behind in time, the matches would have to be shortened. This will not have to happen if everyone keeps moving quickly and aware of reffing duties etc.
